Hoisin Sauce
Hoisin sauce, also called Chinese barbecue sauce, is made from soybean paste and flavored with garlic, sugar, chilies, and other spices and ingredients. A thick sauce valued for its unique combination of sweet and spicy flavors, it is used in sauces, to glaze roasted meat, and as a dipping sauce. It is dark in color and thick in consistency. It has a very strong salty and slightly sweet flavor, which some may find objectionable.
