Hordenine
Hordenine is derived most commonly from Hordeum vulgare L; however, it can be extracted from other sources such as grassy plants gains, and from some species of cactus which are associated with having hallucinogenic affects such as peyote.
Hordeum vulgare L has a long history of being used as a food stuff, which is found in many breads and soups, however, it also has some medicinal benefits. It has been scientifically proven to be able to help ease high cholesterol, constipation, high blood pressure, glucose intolerance and ulcerative colitis. It also has a long history in traditional and folk medicine as being helpful asthma, boils, bronchitis, diarrhea, diabetes and inflammatory bowel disease, although there is no scientific research to back up these claims.
