Chill Out With Fitness
June 26th, 2009Stress is as much a part of life as life itself. It may come and go but it is never completely absent. Whether it is the bills, the kids, or your career (or lackthereof) it is probable that you are in need of some relaxation and stress relief at certain points in your life. There are many relaxation techniques that can be used which induce a relaxation response in the body. These kinds of techniques will help your muscles relax, reduce your heart rate and give you a feeling of emotional peace. Some relaxation techniques include meditation, deep breathing, and massage. Another great stress relief is exercise. Here are three exercises to beat your stress:
1.Jazzercise. Jazzercise is a fun aerobics class which mixes in choreography from different types of dances. It is not only a great workout but it is so much fun that you will find yourself laughing (possibly at yourself) by the end of the class. It doesn’t mater if you have two left feet or are a great dancer, this class is for anyone who wants to beat stress and get in shape.
2.Outdoor walks. It has been scientifically proven that walking outdoors lowers blood pressure and fights depression moreso than working out indoors. Going on a scenic walk through a park, by the water or down at the beach can do wonders to clear your mind. It is also a low impact workout that almost everyone can do.
3.Stretching. Stretching exercises stimulate receptors in the nervous system that decrease the production of stress hormones. Stretching exercises also relax tight, tense muscles and increase blood flow throughout the body. If you have trouble stretching on your own try a yoga class. Yoga will stretch your body effectively and is great for a balance of the mind and body.
You don’t always have to work out to beat stress. Talk on the phone with a friend, take a mini weekend vacation or just watch a movie by yourself. The point is to take some time out for yourself and do something that you enjoy.
