Best Exercises Designed For Men

August 11th, 2009

It is not only women who are dying to get a beach-worthy body – men can be just as dedictated to exercise in order to show off their bod at the beach. Whereas women tend to focus on fat loss, men should focus on building the important muscles in the upper body such as the abs, chest, biceps, tripeps, back and shoulders.

1.Swiss ball crunches. The swiss ball is the perfect workout partner b use it is so versatile. It is great for helping you achieve defined abs by giving you a variety of options for different types of abdominal exercises. One exercise to define your abs is the swiss ball crunch. Start by laying with the center of your back on top of a Swiss ball, your arms out to the side and your hands behind your head. Curl up and do an abdominal crunch, just as you would if you were lying on the floor. With having the ball underneath you it will force you to work the abdominal muscles that give you the 6 pack definition.

2.Barbell chest press. To give your chest some definition, the barbell chest press is a classic and effective exercise. Grasp the barbell with both hands placed shoulder width apart and push the barbell away from the rack. Move the barbell slowly until it is about three centimetres off your chest and then return it to the starting position. Repeat for 3 sets of 15 with the weight being heavy enough so that you can barely finish a set but not so heavy that you are straining yourself.

3.Lates pulldown. This exercise is great for strengthening and building muscle in your back. Start the exercise by grabbing the bar of the lat pulldown machine as you sit down on the bench. Lean back slightly and bring the bar down to your chest level so that it is close but not quite touching your collarbone. Concentrate on the muscles in your lower back while keeping your abdominals tight. Lower the bar and then slowly raise to the starting position.

Try to use these exercises at least 3 times a week but don’t push yourself too far. Weight lifting is key for getting a noticeable beach body but not letting your body recover properly between workouts or pushing too hard can leave you injured and out of commission for quite some time.

4 Essential Foods For Men

March 23rd, 2009

Men are quite different physically from women and therefore, they have different nutritional needs. Men also are very susceptible to heart disease due to their diets and they show signs of this disease 10 to 20 years earlier than women do. Furthermore, men are extremely susceptible to prostate cancer. Research shows that if a man lives long enough, the chances are great that he will develop prostate cancer at some point. Here are four essential foods for men to stay healthy:

1. Fiber: Fiber is important to keep the digestive system running smoothly-men need at least 25 grams per day. By eating whole grains, beans, grapefruit, and berries men can easily get the recommended daily amount. Taking a flax seed supplement is a great way to ensure you are getting a good dose of fiber.

2. Seafood. Seafood is not only delicious, but it is high in protein and zinc. Zinc ensures your immune system is working to the best of its ability and also promotes prostate health. Salmon, prawns, trout, oysters, cod, and bass are all healthy options.

3. Garlic. Both raw and cooked garlic are good for you - even deodorized garlic capsules help bring down blood cholesterol levels of men. Garlic has also been found to be a potent cancer fighter, especially if taken raw. Add garlic to your food when you can – sauces, stir fries, and hummus are all great ways to get more of this amazing herb into your body.

4. Tomatoes. Lycopene is a potent antioxidant found in tomatoes that is especially good in the prevention of prostate cancer. Cooked tomatos enhance the potency of lycopene, so tomato based pasta sauces, stewed tomatoes in chili, and extra tomato sauce on pizza are all good options for men.

Eating healthy may not fit into some men’s repetoir, but the importance of diet is commonly overlooked. Eating a well balanced diet doesn’t mean you have to give up your favorite foods-just eat more of the healthier ones.
