The Power Of Co-Enzyme Q10

February 5th, 2010

Co-Enzyme Q10 is an important nutrient.  Co-Enzyme Q10 is a vitamin like nutrient whose actions I the body can resemble the processes of vitamin E.  It is an extremely powerful antioxidant and has a variety of anti-aging effects.  Co-Enzyme Q10 is found in the human body and plays a powerful role in the production of energy.

Co-Enzyme Q10 is important for the functioning of every cell in the human body.  It helps circulation and stimulates immune function.  This powerful substance also has been shown to help with tissue oxygenation.  Deficiencies have been associated with periodontal disease, muscular dystrophy and diabetes.

Recent research suggests that Co-Enzyme Q 10 has the power to act as an histamine and can therefore be very valuable to those individuals suffering from allergies, respiratory diseases and asthma.  Also, it has been used to help with mental function.  Doctors have found that supplementation with Co-Enzyme Q10 might be potentially helpful with schizophrenia and Alzheimer’s.

Aside from all of these powerful benefits, the little miracle nutrient can also help in fighting obesity.  Some researchers believe that it can help in fighting fat production and retention.  It is also being studied as a potential benefit to those dealing with Candidiasis.  Finally, multiple sclerosis may also be potentially treated with Co-Enzyme Q10.

Co-Enzyme Q10 has been studied for its effects in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease as well.  A six year study by researchers at the University of Texas revealed that those people being treated for heart failure (congestive) who took the supplement showed a 75% rate of survival after three years, whereas those who didn’t had only a 25% rate.  This dramatic difference suggests that this supplement is a powerful treatment.  In further support of this study, Co-Enzyme Q10 was also shown to lower high blood pressure without the use of any other medication or diet and lifestyle change.

Some practitioners have also begun to give their patients who are undergoing chemotherapy supplemental Co-Enzyme Q10 because it has been shown to be effective in reducing the mortality of animals with tumours and leukemia.

The body’s supply of this supplement declines with age.  Natural sources also include salmon, mackerel, and sardines.  In smaller quantities it is also found in beef, peanuts, and spinach.  Because of the age related decline, however, those over fifty should probably take a supplemental dose.  A sublingual form containing 50 milligrams is best.
