Wrist Stretching For Office Workers
April 14th, 2009The wrists are an important part of the body that is commonly neglected. They are used for practically everything from exercising and weight lifting to typing and writing. Individuals that work in an office environment commonly run into wrist troubles due to the constant use of this part of the body without any proper stretching or strengthening exercises. Here are four exercises that are very easy to do but which effectively stretch out the wrist area:
1. With your hand open and your palm down, bend your wrist from side to side, as far as possible. Hold for 3 to 5 seconds. Repeat 3 times
2. Grasp your hand and hold fingers with the hand that you are not stretching. Slowly bend your wrist down until you feel a stretch. Hold for 3 to 5 seconds. Relax. Repeat 3 times. Do the same thing but bend your wrist up until you feel the same sensation. Repeat this exercise 3 times.
3. Make a hook shape by keeping your hand vertical and bending your fingers down while curling them in slightly.. Slide your finger tips up your palm so the tips of your fingers are near the base of your fingers until you feel a stretching sensation. Hold and repeat 3 times.
4. Using a solid surface that is preferable a little higher than waist level, straighten your arm out in front of you and rest your fingers on its surface. Apply slight pressure to your wrist so that your fingers are being stretched on the solid object. Hold this position for about 15 seconds and repeat 5 times.
Taking care of your wrists now will prevent future problems from developing. These exercises can be easily done at home or in the office and should be done daily to keep this area healthy and free of pain.
