Three Immunity Boosting Foods

If you want to boost your immunity naturally, start by eating the right kinds of foods. Diet makes such a huge difference in our overall health and can keep colds and flus away for years. Here are three immunity boosting foods to eat all year long.

1. Oats and Barley. Not only are these a good breakfast combo because of their high fibre contents, but they also boost immunity. These grains contain beta-glucan which is a type of fiber with antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. Beta-glucan is even more powerful at boosting immunity than echinacea is.  Eating oats and barley will boost immunity, speed wound healing, and may help antibiotics work better.

2. Garlic. Garlic contains allicin which is very effective at fighting off infections and ridding the body of bacteria. Although it may not be the best for your breath, eating raw garlic daily can have amazing benefits on your health. Garlic eaters are much less likely to get the common cold and also have much lower rates of colorectal and stomach cancers.

3. Lean meats. Although most people do not equate eating meat with being healthy, it is one of the best forms of protein available. Most people need about 46 grams of protein per day in order for the immune system to have the enough white blood cells and antibodies to properly fight infection. If you are a vegetarian you can still get enough protein through eating eggs, tofu, and legumes.

Along with eating the right foods it is a good idea to take a good quality multivitamin supplement daily. It can be hard to get all of the vitamins and minerals you need daily, and a multivitamin is an easy solution to this.
