Breakfast Keeps You Thin

January 7th, 2009

You may have heard people say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and it is actually true. People who eat breakfast have not only been proven to be thinner, but they also have a much longer life expectancy-up to 4 years! Eating a good morning meal is one of the easiest and healthiest things you can do for yourself. Here are three nutritious breakfast ideas to help you start your day off right.

1. Eggs. Eggs are filled with protein and will keep you full until lunch time. If you are worried about cholesterol don’t be-as long as you limit your egg intake to no more than two eggs three times a week you should be ok. If you are still concerned then simply use the egg whites and cut out the yolk. The other great thing about eggs is that there are so many different ways that you can eat them-try making a veggie omelet stuffed with tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms, or any other veggie that you prefer.

2. Oatmeal. Oatmeal is packed with fibre and nutritious whole grains. It is also very easy to make and takes practically no time to prepare. In order to get the most health benefits out of this breakfast add ground flax seed along with your choice of apples and cinnamon or nuts and some other type of dried fruit such as cranberries. This will give you more fibre and also add a little more taste to the dish.

3. Fruit & Cottage Cheese. Fruit is great to pair with any breakfast because it gives you some natural sugar and gives you some energy first thing in the morning. Low fat or non fat cottage cheese is the perfect pairing because it provides a lot of protein with very little fat.

If you want to lose weight and stay energized throughout the day, take some time in the morning to make yourself a good meal. If you are strapped for time then do most of the prep work the night before. Make sure you always have chopped up fruit in the fridge or buy an easy microwave egg cooker which takes about a minute to cook your eggs. No matter how little time you have, you should be able to find an extra ten or so minutes to look after yourself in the morning.
